GUEST REVIEW: THE TULIP BISTRO

Yay! My first guest review on Eat, Tech! Travel! Hopefully Simi let’s me write some more, it took too long to write this review.

Today, I will be reviewing Tulip Bistro. A little back story it was my birthday dinner and my S.O. wanted it to be fancy so he contacted Simi and she recommended Da Maria. Last time I was there was at least four years ago, the food, wine and ambiance was good. Fast forward to 2015, got to Da Maria and basically ran out of the restaurant, the old Italian setting failed, it seemed more abandoned than nostalgic.

At this point, we needed to save the night and decided to go on to Plan B – Tulip Bistro- based on recommendation and Trip Advisor .

Tulip Bistro has an elegant and modern setting, nice clean and quiet except for the guy at the juice stand who behaved like he is in Wuse Market.  We were sat by a very nice and smiling waiter (I love being attended to by smiling people). He brought the menu and I was going to get a nice cocktail to cool off and the worst happened.

They DO NOT serve any alcoholic beverage. Why will any restaurant decide to have Pasta, Steak, Salmon etc. and then remove the binding element?

Big let down for me, but moving on, I tried to order off the menu, first asked for Lamb Chops, they were out, then I asked for King Prawns, out too and I finally asked “What do you have that is not Chicken or Salmon?” The waiter responded “Chicken and Salmon”, I almost rolled my eyes. He must have sensed my displeasure so he quickly confirmed if steak was available. I finally settled for  Steak and Roasted Potatoes and my date ordered Mashed Potatoes and Salmon.

The kitchen did not waste time in preparing our order, the food was out in less than twenty minutes. I loved the plating, it was clean and nice. It even made me eat the veggies.

Food: I enjoyed the roasted potatoes and the coleslaw but the steak was not tender or well done as I requested. It was rather very chewy and I had to send it back unfortunately that was the last piece that had for the night.

I am not sure I will be going back there anytime soon but people still swear by their chicken so… I may try that before I write off Tulip Bistro completely.
