I’m sure some of you must have heard a hint of news about some new Alphabet company that Google started but you’re not really sure about the details. Allow me to give you some clarity.

Bros! How far na? Did you hear that News? That Google has changed its name to Alphabet or something like that?

Hey! I did, but that’s not exactly what happened.

Ehen! I knew you’d know what that’s all about. Geek!

Worever mehn! *Smug look*

So what’s really going on with Google? And what is Alphabet?

Well to put it simply, the founders and bigwigs at Google have done some major restructuring and created a new company which will preside over a collection of sub-companies, one of which is Google as you currently know it. That new company is known as Alphabet.
Essentially, Google has now become a subsidiary of Alphabet.

Woah! So Google is now like a smaller company or something.

Not really. It’s still the same old Google, just with a bigger umbrella company over it.

I see. Beht why did they do this?

Basically it’s to streamline things and make all their various businesses more organized.
Before now, Google as a company has dabbled into lots of different business, with quite a few of them straying into fields’ that are way outside of their comfort zone. As their co-founder Larry Page puts it “…in the technology industry, where revolutionary ideas drive the next big growth areas, you need to be a bit uncomfortable to stay relevant.
So to keep things moving along steadily while giving each of these varying division enough freedom to carry out their objectives more efficiently, be it profit making or research, Google needed to evolve. Alphabet is simply the end result of this evolution.

Okay, but what are these other companies or division you’re talking about? I don’t think I’ve heard of any of them before.

Well, apart from Google Inc. which you already know is responsible for their Search, Android, YouTube, Maps & Adverts Business; there’s Calico which carries out research on Human Longevity; Nest Labs which focuses on Home Automation; Google Ventures for venture capital investment in tech startups; & Google Fiber, a broadband internet service provider.
There are a few more of them and I’m sure there will be even more companies under the Alphabet umbrella as time goes on.

Wow! I know of some of those other companies but meeehn!! Human Longevity? Home Automation? These guys are something else.

Yeah! It’s pretty amazing stuff.

So who’s going to be in charge of all this?

Larry Page who was CEO of Google becomes the CEO of Alphabet. Sergey Brin, the co-founder of Google will become the President of the company. The CEOs for all the sub-companies have yet to be announced, except for that of Google Inc., with Sundar Pichai taking over leadership from Larry Page.

Hmm.. Interesting! These guys are really out to change the world.

Yeah, it looks that way. You can check out more about the new company on their website https://abc.xyz/

So, Is Larry Page the Antichrist?

I have no idea -____-

What of Google? Will it become Skynet?

But I thought you knew these things?
