Abuja Cafes to Work From

Abuja Cafes

Hey Guys!

It’s been a while (I know and I am sorry about that).

One of my goals for the second half of this year (see here) was to learn a new language.

I just started working towards achieving that goal. I have been learning French using this app called “Dulingo” and its been amazing. If you are interested in learning a new language, you should check it.

P.S.: If you want to learn Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa and co you are not going to find it there o. LOL!

I am listing out cafes that I have been to in Abuja that you can pretty much work from if you want to avoid all the distractions working from the house brings and free wifi *winks*.

1. The Quarter Cafe

So The Quarter Cafe (a bourgeois boutique café) is one of my favorite cafes in Abuja. Remember our first Food & Game event – Shuffle (see here), it was held at The Quarter Cafe. The ambiance of this place is on point. The framed photographs and scented candles gives it an elegant atmosphere.

P.S. When you visit you should try out the Mint Lemonade. You would thank me later.

2. Salamander Cafe

Salamander remains a top hangout for business or leisure. The occasionally slow service is avoided due to the addition of call buttons on all tables (such a great idea). There is also a bookstore inside the cafe where you can buy books written by Nigerian Authors. They also host Booking Reading events. In the past, Elnathan (Born on a Tuesday) and Chigozie Obioma (The Fishermen) have both held reading events at Salamander Cafe.

3. Classic Rock Cafe

This is another favorite cafe. The ambiance of this cafe is inviting and fun. A lot of thought and details as well as planning was involved in this cafe. I love the quirky bits such as the guitars on the wall, Rock and Roll records as picture frames and drums as tables. We have reviewed this cafe in a previous post (see here). They have a wide selection of coffee drinks available from them including Cappuccino, Mocha, latte Machiatto etc. The internet is also very fast and reliable (just make sure you ask for the password). See a review here.

4. The Cube Cafe

I found this cafe when I was looking for somewhere to work from and The Quarter Cafe wasn’t open due to the Sallah break. If you didn’t know about the cafe, you probably won’t even notice it. It is tucked somewhere in maitama.  But I love the ambiance of the cafe, it is very artsy. If you are a book lover like myself, you would feel at home with the cafe. Also, they host film, salsa and yoga nights occasionally.

5. Saffron Cafe

Funny story with this restaurant. I read Bankole’s post (here) about Legend (a new ISP with advertised speed of 8Mbps) operating in Abuja. Saffron Cafe is one of the cafes serviced by Legend. They also had a variety of pastries and its pretty affordable too as well. They have a little corner stocked with books and board games such as Monopoly. Taboo etc.

  4. […] Did you miss our last post? Check it out  Abuja Cafes to work from. […]

  5. Great list – will come in handy for the next trip to Abuja. Is the Cube new?

What kind of silly app is Dulingo? no Nigerian language 🙂 I will check it out – need to improve my German. #goals

  6. Hey, nice compilation. Surprised my favorite coffees shop[ Cafe De Vie ] didn’t make the list, it is a very hidden gem tho, but the ambiance is so serene and cool. my personal experience with quarter cafe wasn’t a good one. First of all it was so hard to locate, and I couldn’t tell if it was an abandoned building from outside[They really have to work on the exterior!!] The interior space was okay, but they had broken chairs 🙁 i kid you not. The food was good tho, wont deny that, but was it good enough for me to come back to that environment? nope. I honestly felt ‘scammed’ because their Instagram page comes off as a really nice ambiance and cool space… lies IG tells.
Salamander is like the OG ‘cool’ Abuja coffee shop, service is slow but you kinda get used to it.

    1. Hi, thanks for reading! I have never been to Cafe De Vie before.
